What is Cal Teach?
UCLA Cal Teach is a program for students who are studying math, science or engineering to explore careers in science and math education through UCLA coursework, internships at K-12 school, and other academic pathways.
Its mission is to address California's critical need for quality science and math teachers in K-12 public schools.

Ways to Participate
Taking an exploratory course is the core of the Cal Teach experience. You will be partnered with an expert mentor teacher and placed in a K-12 classroom to learn more about teaching and the teaching profession.
Continue your exploration of teaching by shadowing and assisting a middle or high school teacher for a full week in a high needs school in the Los Angeles area. This is a paid internship.
Our Cal Teach Student Advocates and Staff organize informational and social events for Cal Teach students that take place throughout the year.
Email us at cateach@ucla.edu to arrange a virtual or in-person advising session. We will advise you on taking Cal teach classes, joining one of the Minors, and/or teaching credential programs and options.
Academic Programs
The Science Education Minor provides preparation for careers where teaching and conveying science are important components, including secondary, community college, and university teaching, or other science-related outreach.
The Mathematics for Teaching Minor, offered through the math department, is designed for math and non-math majors interested in careers in K-12 mathematics education, including those in instruction, curriculum, assessment, and leadership.
UCLA has two programs that allow undergraduate science and math majors to complete their credential work during their senior (last) year and then obtain a Master of Education in the year following graduation. This is a collaboration with the School of Education’s Teacher Education Program.
